Thomistic Bioethics Colloquium On the Anointing of the Sick

  • Church of St. Joseph 371 6th Avenue New York, NY, 10014 United States (map)

Join us for a deep exploration of the sacrament of anointing of the sick, a source of grace and strength often misunderstood in modern times. Guided by experts in pastoral care, bioethics, moral theology, and liturgy, we will discuss the rich theology and practical beauty of anointing, drawing wisdom from St. Thomas Aquinas and historical traditions of the Church to illuminate our current practice. This colloquium will include talks on appropriate recipients of the sacrament, anointing as a response to societal challenges in end-of-life care, the role of the apostolic pardon, the Dominican rite of anointing, and the newly revised Order of the Anointing of the Sick.

  • Date: Friday, May 29

  • Time: 8 am to 4 pm

  • Location: St. Joseph's Church in Greenwich Village, McGuire Hall

  • Guest Speakers: Romanus Cessario, OP; Hyacinth Grubb, OP; Marie Hilliard, JCL, RN; Columba Thomas, OP, MD; and Msgr. Andrew Wadsworth, PhD
