What is Adoration

Catholics believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist.

During Eucharistic Adoration, the consecrated Host is placed on the altar, and people come simply to be with Him.

There is no program and no pressure. Some stay for a few minutes; others stay longer.

All are welcome.

What people do during Adoration

During Adoration, people often:

  • Sit quietly in prayer

  • Read Scripture or a spiritual book

  • Pray for loved ones

  • Spend time in silence with God

New Here? WHat to expect

  • A quiet chapel with the Eucharist displayed on the altar or in the tabernacle. The atmosphere is peaceful and reverent. Their are chairs and kneelers.

  • Come as you are. Modest and comfortable clothing is perfectly fine.

  • Stay for five minutes or a couple of hours — both are welcome. You’re free to come and go quietly.

  • That’s okay. Many people simply sit quietly. There is no right or wrong way to adore. There is a bookcase towards the back with a selection of readings, devotions, and rosaries for inspiration.

  • No, all are welcome to visit and pray quietly, regardless of background

Why People Come

In the middle of a busy city, Adoration offers something rare: silence, presence, and peace.

People go to Eucharistic Adoration for intimate prayer and worship, to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, find peace, receive spiritual graces, and intercede for others, all centered around the belief that the consecrated host is the real presence of Jesus. It offers a quiet, focused space to be with Christ outside of Mass, fostering personal transformation and strength for daily life.

Holy Hours - A Deeper Commitment

A Holy Hour is a commitment to spend one hour each week in Adoration at the same time. This consistency ensures that Jesus is never left alone in the chapel.

Holy Hours are the foundation of perpetual Adoration. When hours are filled, the Blessed Sacrament can remain exposed.

Why Commitment Matters

For the Eucharist to be exposed on the altar, at least two adorers must be present at all times. When hours go unfilled, we are unable to keep the chapel open.

Your Holy Hour helps make Adoration possible for others — including those who may come seeking peace, clarity, or hope.

Your hour makes it possible for anyone to come - any time - day or night

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! Once you register and have your key card you will be able to access the chapel at all times, day or night.

  • For a recurring commitment, you must sign up for a full hour (although it can be bi-weekly or monthly if you cannot do weekly). You are also able to sign up just to be a substitute and get alerted when someone needs coverage for their commitment.

  • Upon registering with We Adore Him, you will need to stop by the parish office (Monday to Friday, 8am - 11am | 1pm - 4pm) to pick up a key card and sign our chapel agreement.

If you are not able to pick up your card during regular business hours please call the parish office for assistance 212-741-1274.

  • You will use your keycard to enter through the rectory/parish office door and walk down the stairs. There is a kiosk right outside the chapel door where you will check in so that we know you made it to your commitment.

  • The Eucharist is Christ’s great gift to His Church: His very Body given to us. The Eucharist is the real Body of Christ, and during exposition He lies open before us to adore. Because of the Eucharist’s divine dignity, it is essential that if exposed people must be present. If no one is present to adore, then the Eucharist needs to be reposed into the tabernacle. If no one arrives to take the next adoration slot, please call the emergency number to let a friar know to come down and repose the Blessed Sacrament.

  • Exposition allows for a more personal experience with Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Being able to see Jesus exposed before us, instead of hidden in the tabernacle, helps us to better contemplate the mystery of His Incarnation. Jesus waits for us, as a prisoner of love, in our chapel. He waits, in His most vulnerable state, and gives us a chance to see with our eyes, what generations have only dreamed of…God before us!

Turning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.” (Luke 10: 23-24)

  • Taking time to spend an hour adoring our Lord in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament has many fruits. Some prefer to spend the whole time in a contemplative silence conversing with our Lord. Others may begin with devotional prayers such as the rosary or the divine mercy chaplet and then settle into a time of peaceful prayer. Spiritual reading about the lives of the saints or books on Christian spirituality can also aid our prayer and meditation. However you choose to pray, the time spent in adoration is never a waste. It may feel a little restless at first if you’re new to the practice, but once you make it part of your daily or weekly prayer life, the graces and peace of prayer will greatly transform your life.

  • You are not allowed to share your personal access card with anyone - even your spouse or children. For security purposes, everyone that signs up for an hour needs their own unique card.

  • Yes, absolutely. Adoration is for kids and whole families too. Just make sure that they are old enough to understand how to be quiet. Kids under the legal age cannot be assigned an hour on their own, but they may adore with their family.

  • Whatever is comfortable, but be conscious of the presence of the Lord.
