Twenty Third Sunday of Ordinary Time

by Fr. Jonah, O.P.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Well, we made it to September. This month feels like the start of a new year in many ways, with summer ending, students returning, people moving into the city, and exciting programs beginning here at St. Joe’s. A special word of welcome to all the students who come to The Catholic Center at NYU—it’s great to have you back!

I especially want to note and invite you to attend the holy hour that we will hold the evening of 9/11 in memory of those who died in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, along with those aboard United Flight 93 which crashed in Pennsylvania. The holy hour will run from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Please stop by, even for a couple of minutes.

Next Sunday, September 13, at the 11:30 am Mass, I will be formally installed as pastor of St. Joseph’s. Bishop Edmund Whalen, one of the auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese, will be the principal celebrant at Mass. Fr. Boniface will also be coming to concelebrate the Mass. Don’t forget, as well our special celebration of Fr. Boniface for his years of service as pastor here. That will be held after the 11:30 am Mass on Sunday, October 11.

Know of my prayers for all of you.

In Christ,

Fr. Jonah, O.P.
