Easter sunday

by Fr. Boniface, O.P.

Dear St. Joseph Parish Family,

Happy Easter! Today Christ is risen! Our salvation is won, darkness is defeated, and heaven lies open. We need have no fear of suffering or death because Christ has risen from the tomb and shown their powerlessness. Let us draw close to Christ and His victory so that He can make His victory ours. Let us walk the path Christ opened to today, journeying together toward the life of heaven.

Easter is the central fact of all creation. It's so important that Easter lasts for eight days, running through next Sunday. This eight-day span is called the Easter Octave. It represents eternity: a week is seven days, so the eighth day represents the movement beyond time into eternity. That is why our baptismal font is on an eight-sided stand, symbolizing how baptism first enters us into the realm of eternity. Let us follow our baptismal graces until we live fully in eternity!

Have a blessed Easter,

Fr. Boniface
