Seventeenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I wanted to share with you a quote that was the topic of last week’s In Vino Veritas discussion. It’s an excerpt from Robert Louis Wilken’s book The Spirit of Early Christian Thought: 

Unless we invest ourselves in the object of our love, we remain voyeurs and spectators, curiosity seekers, incapable of receiving because we are unwilling to give. With God irony is blasphemy. Only when we turn our deepest self to God can we enter the mystery of God’s life and penetrate the truth of things. If love is absent, our minds remain childish and immature, trying out one thing then another, unable to hold fast to the truth.

A big part of prayer is simply being honest with God and open to the truth that he wants to tell us about himself and about us in light of his love. A relationship with God takes investment of time and energy, just like any other relationship. A great way to make that investment is by claiming a weekly hour of prayer in our adoration chapel. I encourage you to do that!

We’re still working to finalize a date to celebrate Fr. Boniface and thank him for his years of service as pastor here. We’ll be sure to update you when that’s set.
