Corpus Christi

by Fr. Jonah, O.P.

Dear St. Joseph Parish Family,

Fr. Jonah here, filling in for Fr. Boniface while he’s away.

Today we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi, when we thank God for the unfathomable gift of the Eucharist. We’ve heard the words so often: “This is my body, which will be given up for you.” For you. Jesus is for us. It’s a wonderful thing to reflect on. Of course, the Eucharist doesn’t look like Jesus. It just looks like a sort of beige circle. But God himself has said it is his body, so who are we to doubt him? He’s the Creator—if he’s able to create the universe out of nothing, he’s certainly able to change bread and wine into his body and blood while letting the characteristics of bread and wine remain.

The word eucharist means “thanksgiving.” Thanks be to God for it.

Peace,Fr. Jonah, O.P.
